Development of T.Cottee Art style

At times, when engrossed in the creation of new work, exploring fresh concepts, and evolving styles, it's easy for me to loose sight of the progress I've made on this unpredictable journey. While I have enhanced my grasp on concept development, it's primarily due to an improved understanding of the medium I work with (in my case, words). This doesn't necessarily translate to producing superior work; at times, less is more. I've noticed that striving for perfection in capturing the form (of an animal or subject) can sometimes result in overworking and loosing the legibility of the text. However, it's equally easy to retrospectively criticize the simplicity of earlier works. It is all part of the creative process. To illustrate the differences here are several examples showing the evolution of my work over the years, using the same animals as a reference point.
